Artifact #3: RSS & E-mail Lists

As a technology educator, I feel it’s important to stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends, teaching tools, student scholarships, professional development, and potential technology classes to implement in the future. Because of this, I’ve added my e-mail address to ACM TechNews, a newsletter that gets sent out a couple times a week covering the latest technology news that our students should be aware of. I’m also getting frequent e-mails from a the Alpine School District CTE Technology Department informing me of technology programs they have, technology competitions for students, Technology news throughout the district, and many other important pieces of information that keep me up to date on what other schools are successfully doing with technology. Finally, I’m keeping up to date with information through various technology RSS feeds. Some feeds come from big companies (like Google and Microsoft), others come from news sources, and others come from educators.

All of these sources of technology information provide me with vast amounts of data that I’m able to evaluate for educational purposes and find out how to apply that information effectively in the classroom. I’m able to present some of the news to students and have open discussions with them about the impact that new technologies or information has on our society. I’m able to see the excellent programs that other school districts have and see if there are ways to implement those same practices and strategies in my own classroom/school.

Below is the ACM TechNews page.
